Huckleberry Finn: The Images of Jim

3.) The picture that represents Jim as a caring person is the image where he is hugging Huck. This picture shows how much he cares for anothers and how he protects those that he cares for. Jim is much taller and stronger than Huck and feels that he must look out for him as a father figure. His love and overall care he feels for Huck is shown through this image.

4.) In the novel, Jim is displayed as a strong and resourceful man. In this image, Jim is on his hands and knees begging to Huck. This appears to be sign of weakness and shows that he is lacking confidence. In my eyes I see Jim as a strong, confident and powerful man who does not show weakness. After all that he has been through he has kept a tough exterior and I feel that in this image the exterior has been broken down.

5.) The image of Jim and Huck hugging best illustrates the novel's text because it shows Jim's true character. He is a loving, caring and protective man who has respect for Huck.  Mark Twain's words reprensent him as a character because he is different from other slaves. Jim is a non-confomist and ran away from slavery. He is fighting for his freedom and has signifigant meaning in the novel. If he was a caricature he would be like all the other slaves and Twain would not describe him as different.  Jim plays an extremely important role in the novel and Huck is alive because of him. Jim values the importantce of taking care of those who are important in his life.

Another sort of false prayers are our regrets. Discontent is the want of self-reliance: it is infirmity of will.

Battle of Fallen TIMBERs!(The TREEaty of Greenville)

• The Battle of Fallen Timbers occurred in North America in 1974
• Battle between the United States of America and Native Americans in the Ohio Valley
• Fought over territory in Ohio territory and boundaries
• U.S defeated the Native Americans
• Treaty of Greenville was signed on August 3,1795 at Greenville
• Granted U.S Ohio territory and secured control
• Indigenous were forced to abandon territory
• Treat of Greenville consisted of ten articles and set boundary lines
• Established peace and put an end to the war and controversies

  
George Washington discussed many goals in his Farwell Address, including to keep the country united and maintain land. This relates to the Battle of Fallen Timbers and the Treaty of Greenville because it established American land and boundaries. It took territory away from the Native Americans and gave it to the United States. It is following the goal of Washington by uniting our country and maintaining our land. "As a very important source of strength and security, cherish public credit.One method of preserving it is to use it as sparingly as possible, avoiding occasions of expense by cultivating peace"(75). By signing the Treaty at Greenville the United States preserved peace and kept the land that belonged to us. The Treaty created peace and settled controversies.

The Battle of Fallen Timbers and the Treaty of Greenville relates to what we have been learning about because it represents the power and the strength of the United States. The United States defeated the Native Americans in the Battle of Fallen Timbers and it shows are strength as a country and our army.The Treaty settles controversies over land and boundaries and gives us freedom to the land.   This research helped establish my ideas of liberty in a different way. I learned that sometimes to earn liberty you have to take it away from someone else. The United States took land away from the Native Americans and they were forced to leave their territory. Our freedom to the territory was a result of taking away the Native Americans.  The United States took this opportunity for land and ran with it. According to the constitution, is it right to take someones land who is from the same land? Aren't we all entitled to our own land and property? This helps accomplish the goals of the preamble because by signing the Treaty of Greenville, the United States is establishing justice and forming a more perfect union.

"Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take:but as for me, give me liberty,or give me death!"(36)
I paired this qoute to this picture said by Patrick Henry because I believe is shows to need for liberty. During 9/11 those trapped inside the towers felt that they had no freedom and no chance of life. They chose to jump out of the builidings to get away from the destruction. Freedom is a key value in the United States and 9/11 tested America's freedom. Those who jumped who rather lose their life by choice than lose their life to terrorists that threathen our countries liberty.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

1.In the beginning of the book I was very sympathetic towards Oskar and the situation he is in. It is extremely hard to lose a parent and to lose a parent due to a terrorist attack is unthinkable. At this point in the novel I am becoming more critical of Oskar's actions. I feel that he has a lot of anger building up inside him and he does not know how to handle it. He is nine years old and is left with many unanswered questions that he feels he needs to solve. He takes his anger out on his mother on page 171 when he says "If i could have chosen, I would of have chosen you. Here he is trying to say that if he could of have picked someone to die on 9/11, it would of been his mother and not his father. I found this to be the point where I became critical of him. He was only thinking of how he felt and not of how his mother was feeling.He thinks his mother does not care that his father died, but everyone has their own way of grieving and she herself is grieving. They have a lack of communication which makes them both angry and upset towards each other. I think Oskar needs to find better ways to channel his anger without jeopardizing his relationship with others.
